Cat: Litter Genie

"Easy to use and makes litter box cleaning simpler."

Recently I took in another cat from a relative who was moving into an apartment. So I welcomed little one-year-old Lu-Lu into a family of three other cats. Of course I was expecting the territorial "What are you doing in my house" perspective from the cats resulting in the occasional hissing. What I wasn't expecting is how much of a difference it would cause for the litter box. I know you should have multiple litter boxes with multiple cats but I like to stick to one messy box to clean. Cleaning out the litter box can be such a chore it seems. I researched a bit on toilet training (now THAT would be so much easier and a money saver in the long run) but it didn't pan out too well. My cats prefer the old fashioned digging their paws in the litter (while flinging surprises outside the box too) and leaving their business to clean up afterwards.
Now what else can I try...

Crowdtap offered me a great opportunity to sample the Litter Genie. Just what I needed! Upon arrival and taking it out of the box my husband asked "Are we having a baby?"
The design does seem to work similar to the Diaper Genie. Both having the same purpose: easily disposable and to prevent smelly odors.

The Litter Genie is a plastic compact pail that stands at 9.5" in length, 8.5" in width, and 17" in height. Here is a helpful demonstrational video on how to set it up.

Included with the Litter Genie is one refill, scooper, & scooper holder. The standard refill has 14 ft. of foil. One refill should last two months (based on having one cat) and a new one should be replaced when you see the black line on the film. The refills are $14.99 for a 2-pack at Target (on-line price). If you buy in bulk you can find good deals on Amazon.

Here are the steps: Pull the refill's plastic tab and remove the outer rim. (Kind of like how you open liquid drinks.) Pull about one foot of the plastic film out of the refill. Then push down the film through the center of the rim and tie a knot at the bottom. Open the lid and funnel and sit the refill on top of the unit. Pull the handle and push the film through the pail. Close the funnel and close the lid. Now you're all set and ready to go!

No more grabbing a store bag and having to take it to the garage everyday. Now I can just scoop and close the lid. Simple. And I'm all about making everyday things simple when I have so much to do! When the bag is full and ready to dispose just use cut the bag where the "cutter" tab is located, tie the bag and toss it. Repeat the step to pull the plastic one foot and re-tie the film.

Now no embarrassing odors when you have expected or unexpected guests! The Litter Genie is available at stores like Target, Amazon, and Pet Smart to name a few. I recently had a $5 off coupon that I received in the newspaper and if you go to their website www.thelittergenie.com you can share to receive coupons as well.

The refill cartridge is recyclable.  Don't forget to recycle :)
